BRIEF DESCRIPTIONThe Master of Public Administration (MPA) is an academic programme whose scope is broad but largely focuses on understanding the dynamics inherent in the development and implementation of public policies. Subsequently, the programme is intended to equip postgraduate students with advanced knowledge in public administration and analytical skills to manage and cope with emerging issues and challenges resulting from the dynamics of the global settings.
PROGRAMME AIMThe aim of the Master of Public Administration is to produce graduates equipped with the knowledge, competences, analytical and research skills in the field of public administration to enable them to respond to the rapidly changing environment of public administration and thus become effective leaders and managers of public, not-for-profit and private organizations. Subsequently, this will significantly contribute to the pursuit of socio-economic development particularly in line with the vision of smart Zambia, Sustainable development of goals and the vision 2030.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVESThe Programme aims at:
- Equipping students with research and analytical skills to enable them to apply theories to the field of Public administration and thereby contribute to the tackling of complex organisational problems and respond to the rapidly changing organisation environment.
- Equipping students with knowledge on major reform trajectories in public administration both locally and internationally to enable them to become competent administrators and policy analysts.
- Inculcating desired attitudes in students and equipping them with presentation skills necessary for effective management of external relations with various stakeholders in Public administration to enhance the art of governance.
- Developing a pool of researchers in Public Administration issues.
MODES OF STUDYThe Programme will be offered on a full time, block release and part-time basis.
CAMPUS LOCATIONThe MPA is offered at our Main Campus in Lusaka.
DURATIONThe MPA is a two-year Programme. The first year is taught whilst proposal development under supervision arrangements for Assessments of Dissertations are underway.
The Thesis in Master of Public Administration (MPA) is submitted in the second year.
