BACHELOR OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The changing political, social and economic environment in Africa underscores the need for African countries including Zambia to have efficient public service institutions. The public service, especially the civil service, is one of the key institutions responsible for the formulation and implementation of strategies, policies, programmes and projects for the achievement of socio economic development. The contemporary Public Service is highly complex in that it is facing serious resource constraints. In addition, there is a high level of awareness of rights among citizens leading to demand for quality public goods and services. The Bachelor of Public Administration was developed in order to address the demand for public Service personnel. The degree programme provides an opportunity for students to explore the models of traditional Public Administration and the “New Public Management Vis-à-vis Strategic Management”. This is in order to broaden the knowledge of students in the field as well as equip them with analytical and management skills to help them meet the challenges of the public service and contribute to its effectiveness, efficiency and economy. The Public Administration degree programme students will be able to advance the concept of "the public good," learn to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of public policies, consider the interests of stakeholders and influence those who make public policy happen. Students will also learn the value and necessity of building public/private partnerships as the creative way to deliver public service.
